Overview






Phased-Array UT (PAUT) - NDT Engineering Level III Examiner / Senior / Specialist

Location: Quonset Point Facility / North Kingstown, Rhode Island

 

The successful candidate will join the Nondestructive Test (NDT) Engineering Services organization within Electric Boat (EB) and support Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) shipyard development and implementation. EB’s NDT Engineering Services group is tasked with developing and implementing new and emerging technologies for shipyard use. The group is currently expanding and is in search of an experienced Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level II or Level III who will provide technical guidance and expertise for establishment of a shipyard PAUT program for both nuclear and non-nuclear applications. Primary responsibilities are the integration of PAUT inspection applications into shipbuilding processes, strategic plan to develop certified PAUT inspectors, collaborations with cross-functional working groups for PAUT implementation, and administration of PAUT program once established.

 

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the site technical lead at Quonset Point for PAUT weld inspection techniques, data review, flaw characterization, and weld acceptance criteria development
  • Provide technical guidance on PAUT processes, procedures, requirements, and training development for shipbuilding inspections
  • Review, administer, and ensure shipyard compliance with fabrication, welding, and NDT military specifications
  • Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of NDT
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise with respect to on-site construction support and problem resolution, as well as off-site involvement with material suppliers
  • Interface with Quality Assurance, Design and Engineering departments as well as NAVSEA customer representatives
  • Prepare technical reports as a result of testing, research and development, and quality investigations
  • Certify and perform audits of UT personnel








Qualifications






Required:

  • High-school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years’ experience as a certified UT Level II or Level III with ASNT SNT-TC-1A PAUT Level II certification OR successful completion of Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Performance Demonstration Initiative (PDI) exam using the phased array technique
  • Documented hands-on experience of 2+ years performing PAUT on welds in a production environment
  • Must be able to certify to NAVSEA 250-1500-1 UT Level III Examiner status within one (1) year of onboarding to Electric Boat

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in an engineering field
  • 5+ years’ experience as a certified UT Level III Examiner with ASNT SNT-TC-1A PAUT Level II certification
  • Level II/III UT experience (with a PAUT focus) in shipbuilding industry or other heavy fabrication industry
  • Previous experience establishing a new volumetric NDT program at a manufacturing facility (UT/PAUT program development experience is a plus)
  • Active ASNT SNT-TC-1A UT Level III Certification
  • Current or previous UT Level III NAVSEA 250-1500-1 certification(s)
  • A background in engineering/quality assurance or engineering/quality assurance support
  • Familiarity with Military specifications (Tech Pub 271 and NAVSEA 250-1500-1)
  • Advanced computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point (or equivalent), and PAUT software (i.e. Ultravision, Omni-PC)
  • 5+ years’ experience with PAUT inspection of pipe welds
  • Current or previous certification to Level II or Level III in VT, PT, MT, RT, CR, ToFD, and / or ET
