Performs a variety of technical procedures that require minimum independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of radio-isotopes for the diagnosis and therapy of disease in humans. Ensures the flow of work in the Nuclear Medicine Department on a daily basis.









Responsibilities






A day in the life of a Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Performs on a daily basis a variety of complex nuclear medicine procedures with a minimum accuracy rate of 99%, in compliance with standard procedures. Regularly updates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the ages of patients served. Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients.
  • Computes and prepares accurate dosages as required for each specialized exam with a minimum accuracy of 99%.
  • Orders necessary radio-isotope materials with a 100% accuracy rate.
  • Observes all government regulations regarding the safe utilization, storage and disposal of radio-isotopes with 100% accuracy.
  • Performs daily QC testing, identifies equipment malfunctions and makes simple adjustments, troubleshoots and/or call for repair and notifies supervisor.
  • Translates physician’s orders involving technical-surgical procedures into appropriate nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Ensures the flow of work in the department, oversees and advises Director of any issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining a productivity level within 20% of the FTE monthly average for that modality, which is publicly posted. Exception: Low-volume shifts (nights).
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
  • Observes all prescribed safety and infection control procedures with a minimum of 99% compliance.
  • Maintains records of radio-isotopes utilization as required by government regulatory agencies with 100% accuracy.
  • Schedules and coordinates patient examinations with special isotope orders to ensure maximum utilization of hospital expenditures.
  • Communicates and cooperates effectively with patients, fellow workers, and all hospital personnel, as evidenced by the accuracy of statements and information exchanged and the assistance provided.
  • Transports patients to and from patient floor or other designated areas on an as needed basis.
  • Responsible for proper coding and charging of examinations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.








Qualifications






Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Possess the credential of Registered Technologist in Nuclear Medicine, ARRT(N), awarded by the American Registry for Radiologic Technology OR Possess the credential of Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist, CNMT, awarded by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Minimum (5) five years experience as a nuclear medicine technologist required.
