Overview






The Non-Destructive Test Engineering (NDTE) Supplier Support Group has a challenging but rewarding opportunity for the right individual.Β  The NDTE Supplier Support Group provides technical guidance to suppliers as well as internal and external customers on the subject of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) required for the construction and maintenance of nuclear submarines.

Basic job responsibilities will include:

  • Attendance of In-depth Supplier Assessments (ISA) to evaluate supplier NDT performance and program administration
  • Support follow-up activities identified during ISAs to includeΒ interfacing and leading cross functional teams including suppliers, NDT Examiner Staff, Cognizant Engineering, Supplier Quality, SUPSHIP and NAVSEA
  • Coordinate with NDT Examiners to provide technical guidance, expertise, corrective actions, and problem resolution for suppliers
  • Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of NDT
  • Travel for this position is expected to be 25% or less








Qualifications






Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience with NDT, Welding Engineering, or Materials Engineering
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance from the Department of Defense
  • Internal candidates must come from organizations outside Operations (Casciano/Gabriel)

Preferred:

  • Degree in Material Science, Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering (focus on metallics), Welding Engineering or other Engineering degree with experience in NDT
  • Engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications
  • Experience with NDT methods and applications to ensure acceptable weld and base metal performance for submarine construction (preferably previous NDT Level II or III certifications)
  • Leadership experience








Skills






  • Advanced computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with both a technical and nontechnical audience.
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP and NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to evaluate situations, make recommendations and take prompt and effective action.
  • Ability to understand documents that reference to Non-Destructive Testing and the interpret and rationalize inspection requirements
  • Ability to draft and peer review supplier and internal documentation with respect to Non-Destructive Testing
  • Ability to identify risks and opportunities
  • Ability to manage concurrent tasks and effectively prioritize work
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
