General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking Entry Level Engineers to join the Life Cycle Support (LCS) organization in the area of Fleet Support Engineering (D495).
D495 is a multi-disciplined engineering department (fluids, mechanical, structural, systems engineering) that provides modernization and engineering support for delivered submarines in the US Navy including OHIO, VIRGINIA, and SEAWOLF Classes in the non-reactor plant areas of the ship. D495 provides direct support to the commissioned submarine fleet on a daily basis through various means. Frequent communication with Navy Shipyard and Naval Sea Systems (NAVSEA) customers provides a unique and streamlined approach to instituting necessary and timely changes to the submarine fleet in an ever evolving world. Our designs and alterations become reality within months and enable our engineers the opportunity to see their work implemented in a short period of time. Participation in this process is both dynamic and engaging, requiring the ability to handle new urgent challenges on a frequent basis.
Successful candidates will be responsible for various activities required to maintain and enhance the current submarine fleet. Specific responsibilities include providing technical guidance to emergent issues, reviewing drawings, and conducting engineering calculations. Depending on the discipline assigned, a typical calculation might include length of engagement, strength of materials assessments, finite element analysis, flow/heat balance analyses for various systems, pressure drops, and pipe sizing.
This position offers the opportunity for travel to provide on-site technical support of maintenance and modernization activities at various Navy Shipyards. Additionally, this position offers unique opportunities for leadership roles and project work in other more specialized areas.
