PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely design, install, fault find, repair, and maintain instrumentation and IT equipment and infrastructure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12/STD 10/ NQF Level 4 is essential.
  • National Diploma in Instrumentation (T4/S4/N6/NQF Level 6) is essential.
  • Valid Instrumentation Trade Certificate (Section 13) is not essential if technician in possession of a National Diploma (S3/4 or B. Tech) with P1 and P2 completed in instrumentation.
  • 2 Years working experience as an Instrument Mechanician in a Mining Industry, or a related Industry is essential.
  • Process control experience in a similar environment is essential.
  • Computer Literacy (MS Office Package) is essential.
  • Knowledge of the following types of instruments, but not limited to flow, pressure, level, and temperature, analytical, loadcell systems, belt scales and nuclear density.
  • Advanced knowledge of networks (Ethernet, Device Net, ControlNet)
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC and SCADA programming (Allen Bradley ControlLogix 5000, Rockwell Scada System), Interpret P&ID and basic electrical drawings.
  • Valid medical certificate is essential or be medically fit to obtain such a certificate.

COMPETENCIES:

  • SAP experience is desirable.
  • ECSA registration is desirable.
  • Network experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of maintaining software backup would be desirable.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Conduct SCADA and PLC changes including related software and hardware maintenance.
  • Control critical spares in the sections.
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of projects, be able to run small projects.
  • Assist instrument mechs, foreman, operations engineers and managers with technical support and advanced technical skills.
  • Do fault finding on PLCs and Networks
  • Ensure quality of installations and that production targets are met.
  • Update all PLC I/O and documentation lists in the plant.
  • Plan and organise.
  • Ensure that instrumentation and safety specifications and standards are adhered to and followed.
  • Perform standby duties and work overtime when needed.
