Job Description

The salary for this role is £37,509. Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

This role is based at the following site; Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As Finance Business Partner, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of business objectives, providing planning & analysis, accounting, reporting and costing support to inform decision making and drive financial performance, whether this be for providing financial input into a new business case or closing the monthly accounts, accuracy, timeliness, collaboration and understanding of performance essential.

Key Accountabilities:

Review and analyse performance, producing reports and commentary for individual project managers and business unit management to enable monitoring of profitability against budget and recommend corrective action if required.
Provide costing information into project managers and finance review of proposals as required, to enable bids and contracts to be issued on a timely basis.
Prepare and analyse month end accounts, ensuring accurate recognition of expenditure & revenue in accordance with UKAEA financial policy. Working closely with your business area and in collaboration with the broader finance team.
Support the business budgeting and forecast processes, build productive relationship with project managers and senior managers to enable the creation of robust budgets and periodic forecasts at project and at a consolidated business unit level.
Produce formal financial customer reports and liaise with auditors (UK and European) in order to facilitate payment for work performed.
Support the maintenance of a robust control environment, including responsibility for relevant balance sheet accounts appropriate to the business area, such as prepayments, accruals, Work in Progress, Income in Advance are fully reconciled with adequate supporting documentation available for audit purposes.
Liaise with the Capital Project Accountant over the reporting of capital expenditure and associated commentary to ensure clarity as to spending and reasons for variances.
Support finance wider initiatives, such as testing of new reports & upgrades.

Qualifications

Essential:

AAT Qualified/in final stages (qualified within next 6-months).
Part-Qualified (ACCA, ACA, CIMA), or qualified by experience.
Experience with project costing and forecasting.
Experience working closely with business teams in a “business partnering” environment.
Understand the principles of revenue recognition.
Understand multi-funding control requirements.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Good attention to detail – able to work on occasion to challenging timescales while still ensuring accuracy.
Ability to work as a team player & under own initiative.
Highly proficient in Excel and have experience of an ERP accounting system (Unit 4 – Agresso would be an advantage).
