In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Site Services Projects currently has a Technical Officer rotational opportunity.
The Technical Officer provides technical evaluation, considerations and proposals, as required for commercial small projects across Centre of Site. The Technical Officer maintains instructions and procedures up to date, prepare reports, review proposals from external organizations.
This is a temporary position which may be for a period of up to 18 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.
Specific Responsibilities:
Support the Project Manager in the initiation and scope development of new projects including all activities associated with obtaining funding approvals
Support the Project Manager in the use of project management principles to plan, develop, execute, control and report on all aspects of assigned projects
Support the Project Manager in ensuring that key contributors to the project (Operations, Engineering, Facilities, EPS, Safety, Maintenance, other) fulfill their committed obligations on the project in a quality and timely manner
Provide engineering technical support to the project team during all phases of the project, problem-solve issues and make decisions that are technical in nature
Solve problems and coordinate technical work as required
Make decisions and resolve conflicts as required to assure the success of the project and raise unresolved decisions and problems to line management for timely action
Receive assignments from Project Manager as well as identify potential problems and opportunities in assigned projects. Assigned projects will be mechanical, civil, electrical and/or I&C in nature
Perform the role of Field Team Leader (FTL) per Engineering Change Control (ECC) procedures for Preliminary Engineering, Detailed Design, Installation, Commissioning and Close-out of a commercial modification
Lead, monitor and support field progress of installation and commissioning activities
Preparation of installation and commissioning work documentation (Work Coordination Plan, Operating Memos, etc.) and detailed electrical instrumentation and control and/or mechanical commissioning procedures consistent with ECC procedures and other applicable Codes and Standards
Discuss installation or implementation with persons concerned and ensures, where possible, that the installation is as was intended
Review proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned area. Discuss proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate. Recommends disposition of proposal to Supervisor in writing for review and forwarding to approval authority
Prepare or help prepare specifications, for purchasing requisitions for material, services and equipment. Follow up with procurement and provides necessary technical services during field installation. Prepare recommendations for spare parts requirements for new equipment

Demonstrated skills and understanding in the principles of good written and oral communication
Comprehensive understanding of OHSA requirements and Bruce Power Safety rules, regulations and procedures
Comprehensive understanding of Project Management tools and techniques
Comprehensive understanding of Engineering Change Control principles and procedures
Ability to proactively recognize and mange risks to project success
Ability to motivate and influence others to support project objectives
Ability to draw together a multidiscipline team to achieve project success
Education and Experience:
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of an accredited four year university education in an appropriate engineering or science field or having the equivalent level of education
A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
Experience managing multi-discipline project teams
Experience on construction projects
PMI or PMP certification considered an asset
