Technical Lead – Lifecycle and Safety, T56/Helicopters

Indianapolis, IN

As the Technical Lead of Lifecycle and Safety for T56/501K Program and the Helicopters Program, you will support the T56/Helo Chief Lifecycle Engineer and be responsible for leading and line managing a functional team of lifecycle, safety, reliability, and fleet/MRO/customer technical support engineers to deliver fleet product safety and service solutions to cost, schedule and quality for both programs.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Line manage the engineering team comprised of Lifecycle Engineering, Design Safety & Reliability, and Service Operations to effectively and efficiently:
  • Execute safety processes, risk assessments, root cause analysis, engine investigation, containment activities, corrective actions, lessons learned, and deliver high quality engineering reports and effective customer communications
  • Evaluate in-service engines and hardware with conditions outside of current manual limits (TVs), support depot-level technical queries (TQs) or issues, and initiate technical publication changes
  • Contribute to the formation of cost-effective technical policies to resolve operational issues and to meet life cycle cost targets, including repair development and capability
  • Ensure proper communications with the customer field service teams and Defense Operations Center on technical issues/queries including customer program reviews and technical integration meetings
  • Manage workload, prioritization, resource allocation, and budget for the combined T56/Helo Lifecycle & Safety Team and ensure work is performed to the appropriate technical standards/processes, to the required time frames
  • Ensure lifecycle and safety engineering load and capacity are consistent with combined programs budgets
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring to assigned engineers to enable them to be their best
  • Work with the core function Capability Leads to identify training, skills gaps or competency needs with the team and provide skill development opportunities
  • Champion engineering performance metrics, including commitment to continuous improvement
  • Represent the T56/Helo Chief Lifecycle Engineer (as required) internally and with customers

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Math or Engineering Technology and 5+ years of experience or
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, Math or Engineering Technology and 3+ years of experience
  • PhD or JD
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident to be eligible for consideration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of key processes required to deliver product safety and service attributes
  • Experience and demonstrated capability in root cause investigation, including evidence-based methods
  • Experience in safety investigations (Red Tops/SARs) involving Rolls-Royce products.
  • Experience and knowledge of T56/501K product line and/or Helicopters product line, regulatory framework and customers
  • Breadth of gas turbine engineering experience across engineering functions: design, performance, validation/verification, customer application, certification/qualification, maintenance & overhaul, repair, field service, etc.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound technical and business judgement.
  • Experience in managing/leading/coaching people and teams to successful outcomes and customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others through effective and positive engagement on technical and business issues.
