Overview






MPR is actively seeking a Technical Lead Engineer/Project Manager for a full-time position in the MPR Power Group at our Alexandria, Virginia office.  The successful candidate will engage in a variety of challenging engineering projects involving aspects of design, analysis, specification, test, modification, and failure investigation of industrial systems and equipment.  Projects are associated with different types of electric power generating facilities, including nuclear, coal, gas, renewables, and transmission and distribution facilities.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute his/her technical abilities to project teams immediately and leverage his or her leadership experience while transitioning into technical project management responsibilities.

Qualifications






Education

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Systems, Electrical, Nuclear, Civil/Structural, Chemical, Aeronautical), or Sciences (e.g., Physics, Mathematics) from an ABET-accredited university.
  • U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Training is a plus, but is not required. 

 

Experience

 

At least 5 years of relevant experience including:

 

  • Contributing technical role in projects covering specification, design, or evaluation of mechanical, civil/structural, I&C, and/or electrical systems and components
  • Management of technical projects
  • Use of design and analysis tools for systems and/or components (e.g., pumps, heat exchangers, motors, and valves or experience with equivalent military equipment)
  • One 5-year tour of operational Navy Nuclear experience is considered equivalent

 Qualifications

 

  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

 Skills

 

  • In-depth understanding of power plant design, operation, and/or maintenance
  • Familiarity with industry design standards, codes and regulations
  • Strong analytical skills with fundamental understanding of the underlying first principles of engineering
  • Ability to multi-task across teams of engineers on various projects
  • Ability to manage change and take active leadership in timely decision making
  • Ability to lead and motivate people and encourage teamwork
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and senior management
  • Fundamental of Engineering (FE) and/or Professional Engineer's license is preferred but is not required

Travel

 

  • As required by project assignments.  Estimated to be 10% - 20% with potential for extended field assignments.
