An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sub-System Technical Lead (SSTL) to join the Rolls-Royce team in Bristol.

The Technical lead will be working as a trusted, autonomous, key leadership team to a large (120+ persons) organisation, responsible for direct leadership to smaller delivery team.

Day-to-day providing leadership to multi-disciplinary engineering sub-system staff, defining scope deliverables to ensure a propulsion sub-system and component solution that is consistent with the project requirements. This will involve taking engineering concepts through to structured physical testing and verification programmes.

Part of this will be to provide assurance of technical attributes in line with ambitious performance targets of a next generation propulsion system (e.g. performance, unit cost, weight, efficiency, emissions, time on wing).

What you will be doing:

  • Responsible for providing the leadership of world class engineering talent, providing the conditions for the team to thrive and the insight to add value in the right places.
  • Demonstrate leadership of a highly capable engineering team; applying logical, pragmatic, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters.
  • Deliver appropriate root cause, containment, final fix and terminating actions at sub-system level and/or make recommendation to WED / Chief engineer as required.
  • Team leadership and personnel development to meet long term strategic needs of the programme; role will have high exposure to senior leadership and customer interactions.

Our engineering leadership is empathetic, team oriented, focused and equipped with a range of engineering disciplines; we anticipate you adding another pillar to an already formidable capability

  • Masters Degree in Engineering discipline preferred including Membership to relevant Professional Body (Royal Aero, IMechE, IET etc)
  • Broad understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts (classic mechanical, materials, aeronautical and manufacturing inclusive), supplemented by cost engineering and product definition.
  • Openness and intent to develop excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation
  • Openness to developing or demonstration of existing experience in adaptive personnel management and leadership qualities to get the best out of a variety of skills and people.

Current holder of or willingness to apply for Defined Vetting (DV) level clearance with UK Security Vetting process; is essential. SC will be required before start date can be arranged.
