Job Description
What will you be doing?
Are you an experienced nuclear engineer with a strong background in thermofluids and technical modelling? ALTEN UK is looking for a skilled consultant to support advanced safety analysis activities on a major UK-based nuclear programme. This role focuses on simulating and understanding complex accident scenarios using industry-recognised codes in a highly regulated environment.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Carry out technical modelling and analysis of nuclear systems during abnormal and severe operating conditions.
Apply thermofluid dynamics and reactor theory to simulate system behaviour using established tools.
Work with and interpret results from FORTRAN-based codes such as RELAP5, MAAP, MCNP, PANTHER, VIPRE, or equivalent.
Contribute to the development and refinement of accident scenarios and safety-related assessments.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality technical outputs aligned with programme requirements.
Produce clear and concise technical documentation for internal review.
Who are we looking for?
5+ years’ experience, preferably in the nuclear sector with a focus on PWR systems or safety modelling.
Strong grasp of thermofluids principles, accident progression, and nuclear system behaviour.

Qualifications
Experience, skills and qualifications required:
Degree-qualified (BEng, MEng, MSc, or PhD) in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or a related discipline.
Proficient in FORTRAN and experienced with at least one nuclear modelling code (e.g. MAAP, RELAP5, MCNP).
