The Senior Strategist, Supply Chain is collaborative, strategic, and commercially focused and will develop, recommend, and influence senior Bruce Power leaders by developing and recommending strategies that effectively manage and resolve contract claims and disputes. This will include complex analysis, financial modeling, risk assessments, and development of structures under which various strategies can be achieved, ensuring that all activities, including those undertaken by contractors, are carried out with full regard to site license requirements, statutory regulations, company and location directives, procedures, and safety rules.

The Senior Strategist will develop strategies while strictly regarding all technical, regulatory, and commercial requirements. Strategies will be developed and documented through approved Policy documents, in the areas of:

  • Challenging change orders and suppliers' claims to optimize outcomes and reduce exposure to operational disruptions.

  • Creating and managing claims on behalf of Bruce Power to ensure robust decision-making.

  • Establishing long-term technology strategy and long-term staffing and capability strategies to sustain excellence in contract claims and disputes management.

  • Strengthening controls (procurement, contract management, fraud prevention, etc.).

  • The successful candidate will possess a collaborative mindset, advanced analytical skills, and the ability to influence decisions that balance engineering precision, operational demands, and commercial objectives. Close partnerships with internal stakeholders will ensure that contract claims and dispute strategies are tailored to meet the technical and reliability needs of the organization.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops various programs and service offerings for the business which provide sound advice supported by data and information to facilitate decision making for various activities and recommends strategies to effectively manage and resolve contract claims and disputes, ensuring alignment with Bruce Power’s business objectives

  • Develops, recommends and supports implementation of various confidential commercial strategies for large, complex, strategic capital projects in support of short term and longer term business objectives.

  • Conduct complex analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessments to support the development of robust claims and dispute strategies.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, procurement, and engineering teams, to gather necessary information and insights for claims and disputes.

  • Challenge suppliers' claims by conducting thorough reviews and analyses, identifying gaps, and presenting counterarguments.

  • Create and manage claims on behalf of Bruce Power, ensuring all documentation and evidence are accurately prepared and submitted.

  • Monitor and assess the performance of claims and dispute resolution strategies, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.

  • Ensure compliance with site license requirements, statutory regulations, company directives, procedures, and safety rules in all activities related to contract claims and disputes.

  • Provide detailed background, strategies, and recommendations to senior management, including the CEO and executive team members, on various negotiations with vendors.

  • Manage assigned resources and programs, prioritize work activities, and ensure the execution of work activities to meet business plan requirements.

  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging industry best practices in contract claims and dispute management.

  • Provides active oversight and monitoring as strategies are implemented and executed by the line organization to ensure all benefits identified are maximized or realized.

  • Researches and monitors market changes, supplier trends and impacts and makes recommendations to effectively meet changing requirements. Ensures all activities, including that undertaken by contractors, are carried out with full regard to site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and location directives, procedures and safety rules.

  • Provides leadership, working in conjunction with partners, customers and other division staff, to plan, develop, implement, integrate, communicate and coordinate a wide range of strategies, objectives, cost effective standards, training, education programs, awareness and other associated work programs to best industry practice.

  • Plans, implements and controls the associated core business processes in a manner consistent with the management principles and the need for continuous business improvement to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and compliance.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Confident interpersonal skills to effectively work with partners, senior management, and external stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of Bruce Power’s business and the nuclear or energy industry.

  • Ability to articulate and solve complex problems and concepts.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a complex environment with multiple priorities.

Education and Experience:

  • A 4-year university degree in Honours Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field.

  • 8-10 years of experience in contract claims and disputes management, preferably in the nuclear or energy industry or other highly regulated and complex business sectors.

  • Experience with Business Analytics, Procurement Management, and Project Management.

  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and research abilities.
