In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Business Development division is looking to hire a Senior Strategist.

This is a temporary position which may be for a period of up to 24 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.

The Senior Strategist, Business Strategy within the Business Development team will play a pivotal role in driving strategic initiatives, overseeing business development plans, and fostering key partnerships. This position requires a strong focus on strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and maintaining a Nuclear Safety Culture. Additionally, the Sr. Strategist will support the development of the programmatic approach to Transformation and advance nuclear commercial opportunities related to Bruce C.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adopt and promote the Bruce Power values, demonstrating leadership in behaviours that support these values.
  • Foster teamwork and a stimulating work environment.
  • Provide support and assistance to Senior Leaders in managing the division in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs and agreements.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation, related to assigned functions, which lays down requirements for ensuring that correct and safe practices are followed.
  • Ensure value for money and achievement of the division's business plan.
  • Monitor performance and initiate any actions necessary to correct any adverse trends.
  • Manage responsibilities in a manner which always seeks to enhance the Company's corporate reputation.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the commercially sensitive information.
  • Develop, monitor and report on the implementation of both the division's internal and the partner's Business Development business plans to support the company's and partner's goals.
  • Develop, challenge and monitor the assumptions that underpin the financial models associated with the existing business and any new business opportunities as directed.
  • Develop, maintain and modify financial models and other appropriate analysis tools associated with evaluating the existing business and new business opportunities as directed.
  • Develop business cases for improvements to the current business model and new opportunities as directed.
  • Liaise with the senior management within the company and at the partner level.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Specific Functional Responsibilities:

  • Nuclear Safety Culture: Contribute to the development and growth of a Nuclear Safety Culture by communicating the Nuclear Safety message and demonstrating this commitment through words and actions.
  • Develop and Monitor Business Plans: Oversee the implementation of both internal and partner business development plans to support company and partner goals.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of the division and department business plan, budget, and forecast based on understanding of partner and customer needs, corporate planning priorities, and internal and external trends.
  • Business Case Development: Create business cases for improvements to the current business model and new opportunities.
  • Liaison with Senior Management: Act as a key point of contact for senior management within the company and at the partner level.
  • Support the Development of the Programmatic Approach to Transformation: Provide day-to-day coordination and support to ensure a programmatic approach to Transformation, aligning initiatives with strategic goals and ensuring effective implementation.
  • Maintain and Foster Strategic Partnerships: Develop and maintain important strategic partnerships to support business development goals. Foster relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaboration on strategic initiatives.
  • Advancing Nuclear Commercial Opportunities Related to Bruce C: Assist in developing and overseeing strategic initiatives to support rising electricity demand with clean, reliable electricity. This includes investments in Life-Extension, Project 2030, and advancing nuclear commercial opportunities related to Bruce C.
  • Empowerment Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to foster a culture of continuous improvement by simplifying processes and setting workers up for success. Ensure the safety and reliability of plants by engaging workers in decision-making and providing them with the necessary tools and support.
  • Quick Wins and Sprints Oversight: Lead and oversee cross-functional teams to achieve quick wins and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support the transformational journey and enhance overall efficiency.

Education and Experience

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of a four (4) year university degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Commerce, Political Science, History or Government Studies or related field
  • A period of 8 years up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
  • Strong business acumen to recommend and lead solid courses of action based on available information and/or by tapping into the knowledge held by experts in and out of the company.
  • Ability to articulate and solve complex problems and concepts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial analysis and financial/business modelling.
  • Extensive experience with political concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in advising, strategizing and communicating business and people strategies/initiatives.
  • Confident interpersonal skills to effectively work with Partners, Senior Management, and external stakeholders.
