Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a multidisciplined engineer to join Radiochemistry. The radiochemistry unit at the Knolls Laboratory operates nuclear analysis and characterization laboratories to support radionuclide characterization.
This role will serve an engineering capacity for the chemistry laboratory. In the engineering role, the professional will work with the nuclear/radiological engineering and laboratory equipment engineering community to develop and adapt right-sized radiological controls and tooling to execute routine and experimental work. Frequently, this will require challenging existing practices that require technical or physical adaptations to perform work with improved safety/ergonomics, efficiency, or technical accuracy. The chosen candidate will also participate in the NNL radiological improvements community providing focus and attention to local, corporate and NNPP-wide improvement efforts.
This work will also require getting a Production Radiological Supervisor (PRS) qualification. The chosen candidate will work with the scientists to develop plans, obtain necessary documents and resources for successful first-time completion of radiological work. The PRS will facilitate the collaboration between the scientists and supporting technicians seeking pragmatic solutions to technical problems. They will be an integral member of the Knolls and/or Kesselring site emergency response team. The individual will work with radioactive material and wear dosimetry.
