In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Capital Planning and Insurance department is currently hiring for a Senior Financial Analyst.

The Capital Planning and Insurance team is accountable for managing and providing strategic direction for the Investment Management and Capital Planning processes in alignment with Bruce Power’s long-term goals as well as managing Bruce Power’s insurance program.

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will support the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of the Investment Management and Capital Planning program by leveraging financial expertise, and knowledge of financial management systems, programs, and practices. You will work with line management to assist in the preparation of corporate level financial plans and forecasts and perform analysis to support business plan execution. Working with the broader Capital Planning and Insurance team you will implement new processes and practices to mature our portfolio management and oversight and provide information to senior management to support strategic decision making.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will have in-depth and wide-ranging knowledge of nuclear financial management systems, programs, and practices.

  • Develop and recommend strategies, policies, procedures, and guidance through research, analysis, and input from stakeholders.

  • Provide advice and guidance to line managers in the specialized area of financial management, and to resolve implementation and technical issues independently through exercising professional and independent financial judgement.

  • Perform month-end activities including recording, monitoring, reconciling, analyzing, interpreting and reporting transactions.

  • Troubleshoot complex issues to determine root cause and recommend process and system solutions to increase efficiency.

  • Maintain a professional awareness in relation accounting practices, (i.e. GAAP / IFRS), the general business environment, and the utility industry and be able to communicate impacts and implications throughout the business.

  • Build and enhance existing tools, reporting, and analytics to drive process efficiencies, monitor compliance and further enhance fraud risk identification.

  • Build and provide management reports, utilizing financial systems and other inputs and assist line managers in the interpretation of financial and operational results, process compliance and to support trending.

  • Undertake compliance reviews within the company’s internal control framework to ensure consistent site management control.

  • Support the development and implementation of on-going and new systems and perform periodic reviews of financial systems & processes to identify opportunities for improved productivity.

  • Provide managers with advice, guidance and support for internal and external reporting, and internal control compliance.

  • Ensure efficient and timely support for all audit requirements.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in crafting written communication and in presenting technical and managerial issues to peers and senior management.

  • Knowledge of and experience in dealing with various internal controls framework methodologies.

  • Experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements and reports.

  • In-depth experience with business planning, budgeting, accounting, decision support, and financial policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet job requirements for multiple clients and demanding deadlines.

Education and Experience

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University plus 1 year of further concentrated study (or attainment of a professional accounting designation (i.e. CPA).

  • A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
