An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Specialist - Digital Technical to join Rolls-Royce Submarines in Derby.

Our Digital products are part of our next generation technology. You’ll be a big part of shaping our designs for this technology, so we’re looking for someone with experience of Big Data Platform and cutting-edge technology designs.

What you’ll be doing:

You will be actively participates in the development and execution of the governance and strategy with respect to their area of specialism; is regarded as a thought leader influencing senior business and technical leaders.

  • Technology Definition: Leads the definition of technology capability and work with the Specialists for delivery.
  • Capability Development: Leads the Specialists in the development and application of cutting edge technologies and new capability.
  • Problem Solving: Leads the resolution of new and emerging technical, compliance and business problems, integrating cross-functional business processes, using analytical processes and applying professional judgement.
  • Collaboration: Proactively participates in internal and external networks of fellow specialists to further the understanding of the specialist subject; actively involved in the implementation of strategic collaborative relationships.
  • Leadership: Provides Specialist direction to peers and more junior professionals. Provide technical leadership to teams and projects.
  • People Capability: Supports the definition of skill and professional knowledge within their area of specialism; identifies, co-ordinates training programmes; supports the development of other specialists; provides active mentoring.
  • Standards Definition: Participates with external authorities in the development of relevant policies, standards and best practices; ensures these are defined, shared and adopted within the business.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Leads the sharing of Best Practice; represents their business as an authority in their defined subject; provides concise justification for decisions; records and captures salient information in reports and systems.

Who we are looking for:

  • Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent, higher degree preferred)
  • UK CEng (Chartered Engineer) or other national equivalent relevant to specialist subject area
  • Typically a member of relevant professional body/institute at Fellow level (or equivalent)
  • A deep understanding of Digital Technology, specialist subject and proven ability to influence key decisions
  • Understanding of Intellectual Property and Export Control requirements.
  • Proven experience working in a Digital team / organisation.
  • Experience managing on prem technology solutions and cloud technologies.
  • Finding the right balance between pace of delivery, quality, technical debt and cost is challenging.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
