Job Title: Radioactive Waste Specialist - Submarines

Working Pattern: 37 Hours days

We have an exciting opportunity for a Radioactive Waste Specialist/Engineer to join Rolls-Royce Submarines Limited based in Derby.

The role will provide specialist advice on radioactive waste and environmental matters within the Core Manufacturing Nuclear Licensed Sites. What you will be doing

You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the EPR Radioactive Substances Regulations and relevant aspects of the Installations permits and Site Licence conditions, transport legislation and supporting management arrangements. Specific areas of work will be:

•Optimisation of disposal routes for radioactive wastes and conventional wastes, including permitted discharges.

•Characterisation of materials and items. (It is therefore desirable to have an understanding of the Nuclear Industry Guides and the processes and statistical methods described).

•Support the effective deployment of company-wide policies, processes, systems and procedures ensuring that at all times the business remains compliant.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A degree (minimum 2:2) or equivalent in relevant discipline OR hold or be working towards a professional qualification in relevant area.

  • Significant Experience working on Nuclear Licensed Sites in the areas of Radioactive Waste and Environmental Management is desirable.

  • To hold or willing to work towards Radioactive Waste Advisor status.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the Business conducts and the protection of certain assets a person has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non ITAR country.
