As a member of the interdisciplinary team of Radiation Oncology at UnityPoint Health, conducts and performs Radiation Therapeutic procedures at a therapist level under the general supervision of the Manager of Oncology Services and in cooperation with the Radiation Oncologist.

Responsibilities






Therapeutic Radiation Treatment

  • Delivers therapeutic radiation treatments efficiently and effectively according to radiation oncologists’ prescription and plan.
  • CT Simulations are arranged per doctors’ orders and patients are immobilized for their radiation treatments appropriately.
  • Administer tattoos for marking of setups.
  • QA testing of linear accelerators and CT Simulator daily.

Communication

  • Answers incoming telephone calls and coordinates and schedules appointments with patients.
  • Confirms scheduled appointments.
  • Projects positive, flexible attitude and communications in order to meet patient's needs.
  • Maintains positive communications with fellow staff, radiation oncologists, referring medical oncology providers and nurses.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria        

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.








Qualifications






Education: High School diploma or equivalent.Graduate of an AMA accredited school of Radiation Therapy with a minimum Associate’s Degree. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

 

Experience: One year experience as a Radiation Therapist desired.

 

License(s)/Certification(s): Current Illinois Emergency Management Agency/Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IEMA) license to practice Radiation Therapy. Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (AART) certification required to practice Radiation Therapy. Current CPR certification required to practice.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of applying ionizing radiation for treatment of patients with cancer. Possesses appropriate knowledge of age specific criteria for dealing with adult and geriatric populations.

Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
