Project Manager - Electrical Area Lead

The Senior Project Manager will report to the Project Director and will be responsible for overseeing all electrical engineering, construction, and commissioning activities within the Conventional Island project team.  This role operates under the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) framework, ensuring seamless collaboration across disciplines, stakeholders, and supply chains to deliver high-quality, safe, and cost-effective outcomes.

The Senior Project Manager is expected to have significant experience in project delivery, project execution methodology, and significant understanding of electrical engineering.  You are responsible to lead the engineering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of all electrical systems including generators, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, power distribution, etc.

Your role within the team:

  • Team Leadership and Coordination:  Lead a multidisciplinary project team ensuring effective communication and collaboration among engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders across the IPD project organization.  Coordinate with other project teams including Balance of Plant, Nuclear Island, Civil/Structural, and Mechanical teams to ensure electrical systems integrate seamlessly with plant operations.
  • Contract and Risk Management: Manage all aspects of contract administration, including scope and change control, subcontractor and supplier management, and risk management. Identify and mitigate electrical-specific risks (e.g., electrical faults, fire hazards, redundancy failures).
  • Safety and Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality requirements. Develop and enforce safety programs, training, and corrective action plans to maintain high performance standards.  Oversee quality control processes, including inspections, testing, and validation of electrical systems.  Support licensing and regulatory submissions (e.g., NRC, IAEA) by providing technical documentation and evidence.
  • Financial Management, Monitoring and Reporting: Apply key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project health and performance.  Manage electrical budgets, track cost performance, and identify opportunities for cost optimization.  Ensure milestones align with the master schedule, addressing delays proactively.
  • Procurement and Supply Chain Management: Responsible for all contract management including scope & change control, requirements management, subcontractor and supplier management and governance for any flow-down requirements from the parent contract to subs and vendors.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. Ensure effective communication and coordination to keep all parties informed and aligned with project goals. Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
  • Ethical and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with corporate standards of ethical conduct, cyber-security, import-export regulations, intellectual property protections, and security clearance protocols.
  • Nuclear Safety: Accountable for all aspects of nuclear and industrial safety including adherence with corporate and customer safety programs, development and enforcement of necessary training and requirements, adherence to corrective action programs and enforcement of performance standards for all the above.

The ideal candidate:

  • Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent. Deep understanding of electrical systems and safety requirements; nuclear experience is an asset.  Proficiency in electrical systems design, protection logic, and high-voltage applications.
  • 10+ years of experience leading or supporting projects in the Power / Transmission & Distribution industry.  PMP certification is an asset. 
  • Understanding of project delivery methodology, including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology, and inspection and test plans. 
  • Understanding of large EPC work including subcontracts, prime contract management, supply chain and materials management principles.
  • Experience managing and motivating large teams.  Lead by example, setting high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and customer relationship skills. Demonstrated oral and written communication abilities.
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety and nuclear safety culture.
