ABOUT THE JOB - NUCLEAR MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Location: Burlington, Ontario
Work Environment: Monday – Friday
Work Schedule/Hours: Normal Business Hours
Pay Range: 90-100k - Based on experience
Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear) is responsible for processing Nuclear pump orders and ensuring that the pump set, associated parts and accessories, and support manufactured is suitably designed for the application and in compliance with the customer specification and international specifications including ASME Section III, N285 and N299. The mechanical engineer (Nuclear) is also a key member of the Advanced Engineering team and involved with Sales and tender support activities.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Sales & Tendering with questions and reviews as required.
- Review customers purchase orders and specifications to ensure compliance with the requirements of the project
- Design a suitable product to meet the customer needs either by selecting from an existing design or designing a new product to meet the needs
- Work on CARs, VAVE Projects or design centre related activities as appropriate.
- Perform all required mechanical checks and calculations to ensure the product is designed suitably and will safely perform in the required application (including FEA Analysis and Seismic Calculations when required)
- Manage the creation of all required Models, Drawings and customer related document submissions
- Create Vendor Purchase requisitions and review resultant vendor drawings and data sheets to ensure compliance.
- Create Item masters in the ERP system for all new parts with accurate and detailed part descriptions
- Product BOM, work tickets and supporting BOM clarification notes,
- Support Manufacturing by disposition of NCR’s where problems occur
- Create and process Engineering Change notifications (including Product Change notifications) when needed.
- Investigate Root Cause of design related problems and update designs accordingly.
- Write design guides and technical papers as appropriate.
- Support the Nuclear Quality Program and audits of design related activities.
- Ensure safe working practices and safe product design principles.
- Review and mark up product drawings, models, layouts as required
- Ensure design compliance with all appropriate international standards
- Work with Legal Department to define technical aspects pertaining to export requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Detail Technical Knowledge and experience with API 610 and API 674 type pumping equipment
- Detail Technical Knowledge of ASME Section III, N299 and N285
- Proficient in CAD and 3D modelling software applications
- Interpersonal communication skills necessary to provide direction, support and consultation with employees, sales team, suppliers and customers
Education and Experience
- Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering required
- Professional Engineer Licensure
- Rotating/reciprocating equipment experiences and performance curve knowledge.
- 5+ years direct working knowledge and experience in manufacturing with extensive use of API / ISO/ ASME/ ANSI standards
- Experience in interfacing with Customers, internal stakeholders, and suppliers.
- Experience in manufacturing of rotating equipment especially pumps is preferable.
- Authorization to work under Canadian and US export compliance requirements required.
