A new opportunity has arisen for Mechanical Engineer for Component Design in Fans & Compressors. As a Sub-System/Component Design Engineer you would be responsible for leading the mechanical design of Gas Turbine Engine sub-systems and components. As a Design Engineer you will exhibit strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and have an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, cost engineering, and product definition. As part of Mechanical Engineer - Sub-System/Component Design you will be responsible for leading the creation of design definitions that meet system requirements and product attributes. In this role, you will apply the latest design methods, tools, and techniques to support the design needs of the business.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead sub-system and component design activities, including trade studies for optimization, and mentor less experienced team members to deliver design solutions for gas turbine component(s), sub-systems, and complex assemblies in consideration of safety, manufacturing capability, product physical and functional robustness.
  • Perform engineering activities that include the following: mechanical design, analysis, hand calculations, tolerance stacks, presenting technical data to senior leadership and/or customers, authoring and reviewing technical reports, reviewing and approving functional and physical interfaces, and generating analysis requirements for components and sub-systems.
  • Support the creation of detailed component definition (drawings and/or model based definition), approve these definitions, and support manufacturing to produce conforming hardware.
  • Perform a leadership role in Root Cause and Corrective Action teams, generate and collate input for sub-system and system level risks, and complete risk assessments for owned components and sub-systems.
  • Review and approve component requirements for their responsible sub-system’s hardware. Develop, approve, and execute validation plans utilizing engineering activities referenced above to show compliance to these requirements.
  • Provide and review limits for engine and rig testing and supporting testing including assessment of test results and tested hardware.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of design experience, OR
  • Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, OR
  • JD/PhD
  • Significant experience with gas turbine component and sub-system design, including materials, structural analysis, dynamics, and aerothermal methods
  • Experience using computer aided design tools such as Siemens NX
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and the creation of limit stacks
  • In order to be considered US Citizenship is a requirement

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in leading the design of gas turbine components and sub-systems, such as compressors, combustors, turbines, transmissions, and/or externals
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with engine assembly and testing
  • Experience using finite element analysis tools (such as ANSYS)
  • Programming skills such as Visual Basic, Python, PERL, C++ and/or computational tools such as Matlab
  • An excellent command of the English language for both written and oral communications
