An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the Rolls-Royce Distributed Generation Systems Engineering team at our Defence Sector in Winsford. You will be reporting to the Head of Engineering and responsible for providing flexible, robust, efficient, and cost-effective engineering support to equipment as part of an integrated team.

Our busy Engineering team provides technical support services for our Defence customers, both in the UK and overseas. We are growing our Engineering team to extend our capability in developing and implementing new power system technologies and products for our customers and this role will provide the opportunity to interact with and support a wide variety of business functions engaged in growing our business - including Project Management and Sales / Marketing. This will provide opportunities to take a leading role in the development of new products and services as our business grows, supporting our vision to provide power solutions upon which the armed forces can rely. What you’ll be doing:

In this role you will

  • You will take a leading role regarding the development and design of new products / services.
  • You will provide flexible, robust, efficient, and cost-effective engineering support to our existing products as part of an integrated team.
  • You will conduct failure diagnosis, analysis and sentencing of problems affecting in-service equipment, including equipment testing as required.
  • You will comprehensively report your findings and make recommendations for modifications to maintain capability, reduce costs or address safety concerns.
  • You will coordinate with delivery teams and provide direct liaison with customers to understand and resolve equipment support issues.

This opportunity offers exciting challenges and opportunities for those with relevant experience and qualifications to participate in a business growth project and gain a wide variety of experiences within a small to medium sized enterprise:

  • Ideally, you will have a Mechanical Engineering degree, with proven experience in a mechanical design role and wide-ranging practical experience. This experience will include knowledge of the regulatory requirements relating to, and experience of working with, power generation and distribution equipment. Ideally you should also be working towards Incorporated / Chartered Engineer status.
  • Competence with using Autodesk CAD software packages is preferential but not essential.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills that will enable you to work well within the Engineering team and to build strong relationships with our customers and suppliers.
  • You will have the ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams.
  • You will be adaptable, flexible, and have a drive to acquire new skills.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required.
