Position Overview
Reporting to the QC Lab Manager, the Material Testing Technician is responsible for testing in both laboratory and on construction site, performing variety of testing on soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, and asphalt. This is full time role that will require extensive field and laboratory work for extended time.
Knowledge and Experience:
- The Material Testing Technician is responsible for the following but not limited to:
- Conducting field density testing of soils, aggregate, and asphalt using portable nuclear gauge.
- Conducting field testing of concrete including temperature, slump, air, and casting specimens for compression testing following the latest CSA standard procedures.
- Sampling of soils, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt for evaluation by others to determine the physical and chemical properties of construction materials.
- Conducting field and laboratory testing for flowable grout in accordance with CSA standard procedures.
- Conducting a compressive strength test in the laboratory for concrete and grout specimens in accordance with CSA standard procedures.
- Conducting laboratory testing of soils and aggregates including wash sieve analysis, and proctor.
- Typing daily reports with the results obtained from testing procedures and submitting them to Lab Supervisor for review.
- Maintaining and calibrating concrete/grout testing equipment according to the required frequencies mentioned in CSA.
- Performing inspections on portable nuclear gauges to stay in compliance with CNSC.
- Extracting asphalt/concrete core specimens using the coring equipment.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Civil Engineering Technology / Degree program is considered an asset.
- Candidates with previous quality control experience will be considered for this position.
- Must be well organized, possess good written, verbal skills and able to manage and prioritize several tasks at one time.
- Good knowledge in Microsoft office will be added advantage.
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment is necessary for this position.
- This position requires long working hours including weekends and night shifts.
- Successful applicant must hold a valid Class 5 driver's license (driving abstract required), must be physically able to lift 30 kgs and meet all safety requirements and adhere to all applicable safety policies.
- Must comply with the company's drug & alcohol program, including testing requirement.
