Manufacturing Engineering Technical Lead

As the Manufacturing Engineering Technical Lead for CMCs you will be responsible for providing technical direction to a team of Manufacturing Engineers and will lead the team in problem resolution and major projects to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, deliver rate and lead time. You will collaborate with a cross-functional multi-site team to ensure process and team alignment with the HTC facility. You will also act as a Technical Authority, assuring the initial and continuing capability of the method of production to produce product conforming to design intent. This role will also provide coaching and training to ensure the ongoing development of the manufacturing engineering team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Act as the Technical Authority - Ensure application of manufacturing process controls and within their area of accountability, with authorization subject to appropriate delegation. Act as FAIR signatory, where applicable.
  • Quality - Promote a culture of zero defects within the area of accountability. Ensure that manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within the business are developed and deployed to support Right First-Time manufacture. Coach the community in the use of RRPS, DMAIC and Systems Engineering tools. Ensure compliance to all relevant company, legislative and technical policies, and standards.
  • Deploy Capability - Maintain and/or govern Production Technical Packages (technical instructions, programs, tooling, etc.) for all parts/assemblies which clearly define the manufacturing process. Develop, implement, validate, maintain, and continuously improve manufacturing processes, digital systems and/or methods of manufacture which are capable of meeting and continue to meet requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time. Ensure issues and risks are resolved to meet project timescales.
  • Product Safety - Responsible for ensuring that product safety risks are understood and mitigated to meet the required safety levels and reduce the safety risks so far as is reasonably practicable. Champion product safety and promote a product safety culture in the supply chain, ensuring learning related to product safety is embedded.
  • Develop talent - Act as professional leader of the manufacturing engineering community ensuring required competencies are in place and promoting the development and growth of the community.
  • Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing - Operate as an active member of the global Manufacturing Engineering leadership team, supporting cross-business and sector collaboration, knowledge sharing, skills, and process development to best utilize the available resources to deliver business needs and priorities.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 5+ years of engineering experience, OR
  • Master's degree in Engineering with 3+ years of engineering experience, OR
  • JD/PhD in Science, Technology or Engineering
  • To be considered for this opportunity, you must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with the manufacture of Ceramic Matrix Composite Components or Aerospace Components with coating operations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both technical and business issues with all levels of management within the supply chain and Rolls-Royce
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills. Demonstrated technical project planning and management experience.
  • Has provided technical coaching and support to a group of Engineers
  • Experience with Method Verification Approval process steps and considerations needed to complete equivalent or better fixed process changes
  • Experience with Planning, Executing, and Approving First Article Inspection Reports
  • Experience with quality and validation requirements including PFMEA, MVA, FAIR, APQP, and PPAP. Knowledge of lean manufacturing best practices is strongly desirable.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification with completed projects.
  • Experience with Manufacturing Systems (CAD, CAM, CAPP, Manufacturing Execution System, Manufacturing Intelligence, SAP, Technical Publications, etc.) relevant to the business.
