An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in the Turbine Blade Facility (TBF), based in Derby.

As a Manufacturing Engineer you will be working in the Turbine Blade Facility Manufacturing Engineering team within the Turbines commodity, which is one of the fastest growing and advanced business units within the Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace Supply Chain.

The TBF is a high-volume machining facility manufacturing a wide variety of single crystal turbine blades. You will join the TBF Manufacturing Engineering Continuous Improvement Parts team and will be responsible for the method development and validation activity on any one of the parts within the facility. As well as significant rate increases, the TBF is undergoing significant change in terms of investment in new equipment, gaining new capabilities and increasing our flexibility.

You will be self-motivated and have technical responsibility for the part specific production support and Quality Cost and Delivery (QCD) improvement activity associated with your part. This can include Drive to Zero Defects (DZD) and yield improvement activity, validation of new tooling for business continuity and rate purposes, PPAP and support to the Operations teams on the shop floor. The TBF has a number of high-profile parts and therefore the success of the CI Parts Team has a direct impact on TBF business performance and as such the Manufacturing Engineer role will provide an excellent development opportunity for you.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Be accountable for their part-specific Drive to Zero Defects, yield, and improvement milestone plans.

  • Integrate with the Operations teams to provide a level of production support to ensure the business delivers on its commitments.

  • Integrate with the Process Engineers to ensure part specific issues are understood and dealt with at production cell level.

  • Ensure the manufacturing methods are compliant with all relevant HSE, Export, statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Be accountable for the technical package for the manufacture of your part. This will include technical instructions, production routers, and method change management.

To be successful in this role you will need: Degree level in a Manufacturing, Mechanical or Materials discipline or equivalent work experience.

  • Proficient IT skills (Minitab, Microsoft Office, Project, PowerBI).

  • Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills and the drive to deliver within a challenging, high volume, production environment.

  • Practical experience in Manufacturing Engineering within a production facility, including delivery of data driven improvement projects which utilise Six Sigma tools and techniques.

  • Experience of machining manufacturing processes (Grinding, Electrical Discharge Machining, Welding, and Inspection) is desirable.
