What you will be doing

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team providing in-service engineering support to the Rolls-Royce Civil Large Engine fleet. Lifecycle Engineering is our technical product support organisation focused on ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective engine operation for our global airline customers.

As the prime engineering interface to the in-service fleet, we are dedicated to providing technical excellence and rapid response towards solving engine technical and operational difficulties - anytime, anywhere, and always in a professional manner. As part of this organisation, you will lead investigations of service events, working closely with Designers, Specialists and our Customer Support organisation.

You will lead investigations of operational issues to establish root cause, introduce containment actions and recommend corrective actions. As well as providing technical surveillance and quality assurance audits to support continuous product enhancement for customer satisfaction and business expectation.

Responsibilities

  • Management of known and potential safety issues (SAR & Red Top) and appropriate involvement in safety boards as defined in the Safety Management Plan.
  • Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerical Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution and fly forward analysis.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing and maintaining life cycle engineering policies and any associated maintenance planning documentation.
  • Provide lifecycle technical data (build/in-service/decommissioning) and model/support modelling of through life performance, deterioration mechanisms and service attributes to create and maintain time on platform prediction, identify opportunities for optimization and support the generation of the Service Operation Validation Strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and to adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders. Where delegated, act as the Technical Authority providing assurance on build, commissioning and maintenance activities.

  • Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience)
  • Knowledge of components/ systems functionality and numerical methods
  • Experience of working on complex, novel and ambiguous tasks
  • Familiarity of in-service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
  • Capable of supporting cross-functional teams e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners
