An exciting opportunity for an Inspector role has arisen within the New Build and Components Business, in Nuclear (Submarines).

The purpose of this role is to perform the Inspection of components, to the method as defined in the Technical Instructions and ensuring compliance against the documented method of manufacture. Visual inspections in some areas may require PCN qualification through BINDT.

What you will be doing:

You will perform operations in a safe manner complying with all HS&E requirements and keep work area safe, tidy and clean.

  • Be following all fire, conventional HS&E and where applicable the Nuclear licensed site conditions, procedures and regulations.
  • Be responsible for delivering a defined set of tasks, complying with procedures to apply established methods to plan; and; understand and interpret manufacturing engineering drawings, technical instructions and written specifications.
  • Ensure that the completed tasks for components meets the quality standards & drawing requirements and that the relevant paperwork & documentation is completed in full while also delivering right first time quality for each operation.
  • Comply with the procedures for control of non-conformance for their area.
  • Work within the team to drive productivity and achieve the cell financial targets and be aware of consumable costs and supports in the reduction of waste.
  • Support with or provide on the job training and technical support to other team members as required. You will be engaged when receiving communications from cell and business leaders.
  • Understand any knowledge & skill gaps and be proactive in addressing these through the relevant training and development pathways to become a Suitably Qualified Experienced Person (SQEP). Where applicable ensure qualifications that require external bodies to certify (eg PCN, CSWIP) or a validation from internal authority (eg eye tests) are kept up to date.
  • Ensure that any equipment and measuring tools, used when performing tasks, are in calibration and ensures equipment is fit for purpose both before and after use.

  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of Inspection from a range of practical methods, techniques and work processes.
  • Experience of Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM), Articulated Arm Measurement Equipment or Laser Tracking is beneficial.
  • Where applicable, for Visual Inspections a PCN Level 2 qualification through BINDT will be required.
  • Awareness of HS&E requirements, including risk assessment processes.
  • An awareness of the importance of sustaining and contributing to a strong safety culture.
  • Manage a number of tasks simultaneously, following guidance from the Production Leader.
  • Demonstrate the ability to get things done in an ever changing environment.
  • Display confident communication skills and experience of team working.
  • Project a positive ‘can do’ attitude to deliver on objectives and commitments.
  • Be flexible and willing to multi skill with a desire to grow, learn and develop new skills.
  • Will be required to work shifts.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
