AWEs Independent Oversight team are currently recruiting a Senior Assurer within their (Capital) Projects Oversight team.

Location: This role is based at Aldermaston, between Newbury, Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking. Although this role is predominantly based on site, there is flexibility to work from home - further information on this can be discussed openly during your interview.

Package: from Β£49,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience). A 9-day working fortnight - meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave.

Let us introduce the role..

You will be joining us at AWE as we embark on a major infrastructure programme, enabling the continued delivery of the UK's nuclear deterrent. The team operates as a Third Line of Assurance, verifying that AWE have controls and arrangements in place that are designed and operating effectively to keep both our people and the nation safe and secure.

As a Senior Assurer within the Independent Oversight team, you will lead on the delivery of a value adding assurance programme across our onsite major Capital Projects, in line with applicable arrangements and legislation. This role is instrumental to delivering on AWE's core mission, your focus will be to assure that the critical path of activity is delivered to quality, and safely.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an Independent Oversight Senior Assurer with interest and experience in construction and major infrastructure projects to:

  • Lead on and deliver assigned tasks/inspections in accordance with requirements and operational constraints to time and quality.
  • Provide tactical advice to the business on aspects of the Independent Oversight activities, as required.
  • Analyse data to create themes to support forming the strategic independent overview of the business.
  • Gain the respect of key figures (both internally and externally) and be known for honesty, integrity, and sound assurance and knowledge.
  • Deal with difficult situations with empathy and firm determination to do the right thing.
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.
  • Provide clear and regular information to allow a strategic independent overview of the business.

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have demonstrable experience in some, if not all of the following:

  • Current construction Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation/ Regulations, in particular compliance with the 2015 Construction Design Management Regulations and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Hold a National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Construction accreditation, or a suitable equivalent.
  • Understanding of capital project controls, dependencies, and risk assessment.
  • A clear and concise communication style with the ability to compile reports and present to peers and Senior Managers.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with teams and stakeholders. Previous experience with engaging with external regulators would be desirable.
  • Drive and determination to deliver excellence.
  • The desire to continuously develop knowledge and application techniques of assurance within the capital projects space.
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
