An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Governance Engineer - SSNA to join the team within Submarines

We have an exciting opportunity in the SSNA Chief Engineering team to take a leading role in ensuring that activities associated with the Naval Reactor Plant, are controlled, and managed appropriately and effectively. This will cover all aspects of the product lifecycle with a focus on the manufacture, installation, and commissioning areas. Ensuring the right actions and behaviours now and embedding an ethos of continuous improvement will enable and benefit the Submarines Enterprise for future decades.

You’ll be working with key stakeholders across the Rolls-Royce Submarines business and wider organisations, including the MoD, BAE Systems and Babcock Marine, to maintain compliance with relevant processes and policies for the programme and the wider submarine enterprise.

You will be involved in identifying ways to streamline processes and embed efficient ways-of-working. You’ll have an eye for detail, be methodical in your work and not be afraid to challenge existing practices. Good influencing skills and communication will be essential as part of this role as well as maintaining an open and honest culture.

What you will be doing:

You will form a key part of the SSNA Chief Engineering team and will be responsible for governance across the SSNA programme, with focus on easing our plant’s manufacturing/production taking particular prominence.

  • You’ll be an experienced and pragmatic engineer that’s able to identify and prioritise areas of concern, provide clear and unambiguous guidance and proactively pursue improvements and simplification approaches.
  • Strategy and creation of (or updating) management plans to provide guidance to the wider programme.
  • Working with a range of stakeholders to ensure that suite of documentation is complete, coherent and supports the programme outcomes.
  • Track processes and policies for applicability and work with subject matter experts to ensure they are appropriate and adequately maintained.
  • Seek and collate evidence to demonstrate compliance with the relevant documentation and manage gaps/issues effectively.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy culture where concerns are shared, and constructive feedback provided to encourage positive change and improvement.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Possess a good technical understanding of component and system design, substantiation, manufacturing, and commissioning activities associated with nuclear plant.
  • Capable report writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to challenge existing practices and behaviours in a professional and respectful manner supported by appropriate evidence and data.
  • Ability to work effectively across a range of tasks and collaboratively with stakeholders from multiple disciplines, both internally and externally.
  • Strong planning and organising skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritise appropriately.
  • Awareness of quality systems, processes and standards would be beneficial.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
