Join the power movement as a Eddy Current Technician Level


CFS is seeking experienced eddy current NDT Inspectors to conduct inspection and test activities for our SPARC project. You will perform daily inspections on weldments and machined surfaces to support manufacturing operations. 


The Eddy Current technician at Commonwealth Fusion Systems will play a crucial role in conducting eddy current inspection of MIG and/or TIG welds. The eddy current examinations will implement both conventional surface examinations and deep penetration volumetric weld examinations during the fabrication process of our stainless-steel and copper structures. The technician will be responsible for equipment setup, calibration, monitoring the incoming data stream, and evaluating results for acceptance. 


This position requires a strong understanding of the practical applications of Eddy Current Testing. A firm understanding and previous use of industry codes, specifications, best industry practices, and an ability to review and implement industry inspections will be necessary in order to succeed in this position.

Eddy Current related activities by applying their technical expertise and commitment to quality to positively impact our CFS mission.


Hours: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm

Work 3 weekend days

Rate of pay: $30 - $41 per hour + 15% differential

What you'll do:
  • Under the guidance of the CFS NDT Engineer, implemented deep penetration weld inspections for weld defects during in-process welding
  • Conduct eddy current surface examinations on machined components
  • Prepare and document detailed inspection reports and nonconformances as needed
  • Analyze and interpret Inspection results in accordance with NDT requirements related to austenitic steels, copper, titanium, and other alloys
  • Implement inspection processes in accordance with written procedures
  • Oversee and/or conduct ET inspections at vendor locations, ensuring consistency and quality of external inspections
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of ET equipment


What we're looking for:
  • High School Diploma
  • ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS410, or ISO 9712 Level 1 or 2 Certification in ET
  • Additional NDT certifications in VT, PT, UT, and/or RT are preferred
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in NDT Eddy Current testing
  • Proficient in using and learning digital ET image evaluation software
  • Knowledge of NDE methods with a heavy concentration in ET
  • Analyze data and report quantitative results
  • Be able to set up, maintain, and use a variety of eddy current examination equipment and probes
  • Familiarity with industry standards
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills


Bonus points for:
  • Experience in Aerospace, Power, and/or petrochemical
  • Experience using eddy current array probes
  • Experience in sub-surface and/or multi-layer ET examinations
  • Experience with eddy current inspection software and interpreting strip chart and C-scan data


Must-have requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, and sitting, for extended periods of time
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call or long hours
