Producibility Design Engineer

Full Time (37 hrs week)

As part of the expansion of New Build & Components (NB&C) to deliver Dreadnought and AUKUS submarines, two new roles are available in the Design Engineering (DE) team in CRDMs Producibility. There are exciting opportunities in NB&C and as a DE you will be able to influence CRDM component design and support their delivery.

You will be responsible for driving new product introduction and continuous improvement. This will include implementing world class processes which meet business and customer requirements for Safety, Quality, Cost & Delivery and set the standard for the next generation of submarines’ design.

What you will be doing

Your key Accountabilities will include:

  • Driving new product introduction for the manufacture of the new AUKUS product family, relating design definitions to manufacturing capability.
  • Improving current Dreadnought products to increase quality and rate through the factory.
  • Control and reduce costs to drive profitability in the factory by continuously challenging and improving the methods of manufacture and design definition.
  • Provide support to the delivery programme by responding to technical queries and completing concession substantiation.
  • Understanding programme dependencies to ensure on-time delivery, to enable us to deliver on our promises.

Who we’re looking for:

  • The successful candidate shall have as a UK minimum MEng/BEng in mechanical engineering or related discipline or 5-10 years engineering experience (preferable) in a design related, heavily regulated industry.
  • Candidates shall have knowledge of manufacturing, inspection methods and processes, as well as an appreciation of special processes (e.g. welding, NDE, materials, etc.).
  • An understanding of the ASME Y14.5 drawing standard, Design for Manufacture, and a familiarity with ASME III calculations will also be advantageous.
  • It is desirable for the successful candidate to possess a general awareness of TeamCenter, NX, MS Office and MathCAD. Awareness of the product family is desirable.
  • Engineering accreditation (e.g. UK IEng or CEng) is also desirable.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
