We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to be a Section Lead in our Service Data Investigation team which specialises in the creation of data science solutions to support in-service products.

As the Data Scientist Section Lead you will oversee the performance management and strategic direction of the Data Investigations team while supporting the successful delivery of data science projects that support operational efficiency and decision-making. You will regularly engage with the data scientists, engineers, software developers and many other disciplines within Rolls-Royce promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing to ensure high value solutions are delivered by the team.

This role is situated within our Service Data Centre department that focusses on leveraging in-service data to enhance operational efficiency and support the development of innovative solutions.

What you will be doing:

In this exciting opportunity, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our products by:

  • Lead and Manage Team Performance: Overseeing the performance management, development, and well-being of your team. You will be accountable for the delivery performance of the SDC Data Investigations team and ensure that team members are supported in their professional growth.
  • Pipeline Development: Maintain and develop a pipeline of future data science opportunities, ensuring that the team is aligned with business needs and objectives. Work is primarily managed using the Agile Kanban methodology.
  • Service Request Management: Oversee the management and delivery of ad-hoc service requests to support emergent queries and issues, ensuring that projects are completed on time and meet the necessary standards.
  • Promote Process Compliance: Emphasise process compliance within the team, particularly focusing on procedures relevant to data science and analytics projects to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Engage with other Service Data Centre Section Leads and Group Leads to ensure that business, team goals, and objectives are continually met. Your collaborative approach will help foster a culture of teamwork and shared success.

  • Strong Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills are essential, enabling you to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and promote collaboration within the wider data science community.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: You should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, able to adapt to changing priorities, and support your team in responding to evolving business needs.
  • Strategic Thinker: You should be able to identify opportunities for improvement and be accountable for the promotion, implementation, and value capture of enhancements delivered by the SDC Analytics team.
