This Opportunity 


WSP USA is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate who will be responsible for delivering Construction Inspection Services on Rail Projects in the Washington DC Capital Area.  The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on the Construction Inspection Services team as a full-time Construction Inspector for Transportation Projects in the Baltimore, Maryland and Metro Washington, DC areas.

Job Duties:



  • Conduct on-site inspections of all work performed by the General Contractor, including Railroad Force Account construction, to determine that such work is being completed in conformance with the contract documents, 

  • Inspect and review work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications,

  • Observe the contractor’s work as it is being performed until completion and acceptance of the Project to determine that the permanent materials furnished and work performed are in accordance with all contract documents and approved shop and working drawings,

  • Recommend courses of action when contract requirements are not being fulfilled and the non-performing party does not take corrective action within a reasonable period of time,

  • Monitor, observe, and report on field quality control and quality assurance tests on concrete, steel, asphalt and soils,

  • If required, conduct off site inspections to ensure conformity to Specifications of all materials and equipment,

  • Utilize construction management software such as AASHTO’s Field Manager, ProCore, or Primavera Contract Manager,

  • Prepare daily inspection reports (IDR’s) in accordance with the project's requirements, recording and reporting any deviations from contract documents,

  • Prepare periodic reports and keep the construction manager advised of inspection results, particularly items requiring re-work because of quality deficiencies,

  • Provide field measurements and assist in compiling quantity reports for payment of quantities and changes in the work,

  • Verify and maintain daily quantity data for use in processing payments,

  • Maintain detailed records of contractor's performance and progress,

  • Conduct “receiving inspections” when material is delivered to the Project to verify that the materials received by the Contractor are accompanied by documentation noted by the source of supply and are in conformance with the Contract Documents,

  • Work schedule varies according to job assignments and/or contractor schedules, to include night work, weekends, and holidays,

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


 


Who You Are 


Qualifications:



  • Minimum of 7 years of inspection experience including knowledge of roadway, structure, bridge and facility construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications. Railroad and/or transit experience is a plus.

  • High School Diploma 

  • Ability to pass Amtrak and/or WMATA Contractor’s Safety Training.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Read and comprehend contract documents including plans, specifications, and shop drawings.

  • Experience in heavy civil and facility construction.  Rail and Transit experience is a plus.

  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.

  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.

  • Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment; read and interpret transit rail, roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications; maintain detailed records, and communicate effectively with agency, contractor personnel and the public.

  • Active construction management Certifications (or ability to acquire) including Concrete, Asphalt, Fall protection and confined space training, OSHA Safety, Nuclear Safety & Transportation, Work Zone Traffic Control (intermediate level) and flagger certification, DEQ Erosion & Sediment Control Inspection and DEQ Storm water.

  • Other specialty certifications may include WACEL, ICC, NICET, NACE, and CMIT (Construction manager in training) are a plus.


 


 


Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
