Overview: 

The Radioisotope Science and Technology Division (RSTD) of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks applications for a Technical Project Support and Information Management Specialist. Supporting the largest radioisotope production and research portfolio within the Department of Energy Isotope Program, RSTD uses the unique facilities at ORNL to produce and study radioactive materials with applications in medicine, science, national security and industry. Work in RSTD takes place in specialized nuclear and radiological facilities, including radiological fume hoods, gloveboxes, and heavily shielded hot cells.

 

The Technical Project Support and Information Management Specialist plays a major role in technical project planning, reporting, and information management. Reporting to the RSTD Director, you will provide division-wide support for the strategic advancement of research and development on the production, applications, and fundamental properties of radioisotopes. You will ensure that knowledge and information is properly captured, reviewed, controlled, and disseminated by technical projects. You will work closely with all RSTD line and program management to develop and maintain information systems and capabilities to support organizational, program, and project objectives.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Division Director, Section Heads, Group Leads, and Program Managers, to establish and implement technical support systems for the Division.
  • Actively contribute to shaping the division’s research plans and investments.
  • Communicate funding/proposal opportunities to staff and coordinate Division response.
  • Collaborate with division and program management to develop and track implementation plans for project maturation.
  • Oversee the development of information management tools – such as Sharepoint sites and dashboards.
  • Oversee the division’s information management and work to apply consistent methods across programs.
  • Assist with preparation of division level reports, including notable outcome status, responses to external reviews, input to the Lab Plan, and sponsor reports.
  • Support internal and external assessments.
  • Record findings and recommendations and assist with managing corrective actions.

Basic Requirements:

  • BS with at least 5 years of relevant experience providing support in a technical field.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize actions.
  • Experience supporting multiple organizations within a project or program.
  • Experienced in managing Information Systems
    • Sharepoint expertise is preferred, but training can be provided if needed
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal oversight.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a DOE national lab environment is preferred but not required.
  • A background of working with large organizations or complex projects that require planning, communications, reporting, and assessment, with demonstrated capabilities in each of these areas is required.
