With the use and commercialization of laser-induced inertial fusion, a clean and highly efficient power generation technology is coming within reach, suitable to ensure a secure and scalable future energy supply. 

Our approach not only paves the way for renewable energy generation but also enables the creation of versatile and bright laser-driven radiation sources (LDRS). This novel and compact technology offers broad application fields and promises to transform conventional methods of non-destructive testing. With our laser-driven radiation sources, we tackle unresolved societal and technical challenges, such as making nuclear waste suitable for long-term storage, we enable our energy infrastructure to be ready for the transition to renewable energy and helping to prevent illegal smuggling across our borders. Our spin-off technology not only allows cost reduction in fusion technology but also the advancement of the necessary components. This accelerates the deployment of fusion reactors while simultaneously contributing to solving other pressing issues of our time. 

We are seeking a skilled Monte Carlo Simulation Physicist to join our team and help us shape the future of energy.   

What you’ll do: 

  • Conduct Monte Carlo simulations to design, optimize, and evaluate the performance of neutron collimators. 

  • Optimize signal to noise ratio in the imaging system 

  •  Optimize the neutron production with laser-driven ions  

  • Create a digital twin of the imaging system 

  •  Model the propagation of neutrons and hard x-rays through various materials to study material specific attenuation for material reconstruction. 

  • Develop with a team of physicist, engineers and software developers methods and software to reconstruct the sample composition. 

  • Simulate and optimize radiation shielding geometries for compliance with safety standards

     

Who you are: 

  • Master or PhD in physics, nuclear engineering or comparable. 

  • 4+ years of experience in Monte Carlo based simulation projects  and subsequent proficiency in simulation tools such as MCNP, GEANT4, PHITS or FLUKA. 

  • Experience with neutron applications  

  • Experience with handling large datasets, efficient data storage and automated data evaluation 

  • Previous experience with simulation-based optimization studies and application development 

  •  Programming expertise in languages such as Python, C++, or  comparable. 

  • Exhibit strong self-motivation, goal orientation, and effective time management. 

  • Work independently, manage workflows efficiently, and adapt to change with a startup mindset. 

  • Communicate and present results clearly while fostering sustainable innovation. 

  • Proficiency in German and/or English is essential. 

  • Willingness to travel to our offices in Darmstadt, Biblis and other locations if requested
