Under the direction of the Lab Supervisor, the Lab Technician is responsible for procuring lab supplies, drafting work instructions, drafting procedures, performing tests, reporting test results, and interfacing with members of the Orrvilon / Holtec quality departments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs chemical & mechanical analysis following written procedures.
- Contributes data to the Lab Supervisor, Quality Manager, and Production teams.
- Notify the Lab Supervisor of any condition that affects safety, productivity, or quality.
- Work with other departments to ensure that material produced in-house and supplied from 3rd parties meets specifications.
- Generate and report test results.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the laboratories and conduct work in a safe manner.
- Maintain laboratory equipment/supplies.
- Receives guidance/direction from others on projects.
- Additional Laboratory duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in a physical science field is preferred, or high school diploma with 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Good computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Good teamwork skills; ability to get along and work well with all other employees and participate in group discussions and projects.
- Willing to make a beneficial impact on projects.
- Willing and capable of standing the entire shift, if needed.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds at times.
- Able to travel for work projects.
- Willing and able to work overtime, including weekends at short notice to complete time-sensitive duties and projects.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work; is prompt with regular attendance.
Familiarity with the Following is Preferred:
- General Chemistry skills, such as gravimetric analysis, titration, volumetric transfer.
- Experience with ICP-OES, Glow Discharge, CHN, and HNO analysis
- Understanding of Mechanical properties of metals and other materials.
- Experience with Tensile, Charpy, Rockwell Hardness, and Thermal Conductivity
- Familiarity with ASTM, ASME, or other standards.
- Understands laboratory documentation rules and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings effectively.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and principles in a laboratory setting.
