Within the HSE Unit, the Environment Group (ENV) monitors the impact of the organisation's activities on the local environment and provides advice on improvement measures.
Within this group, you will become part of the Environmental Prevention Section (EP), which offers environmental engineering expertise for new projects and ongoing activities undertaken by the organisation. These cover domains such as air, water, soil, noise, waste, and the use of chemical agents, including follow-up on environmental incidents or accidents, while ensuring that appropriate environmental indicators are defined.
As an Environmental Engineer, you will actively contribute to helping CERN minimise its environmental impact.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting CERN Departments and the HSE Unit in defining requirements for conventional environmental protection within the framework of projects and existing activities.
- Leading environmental studies in areas such as soil protection, biodiversity preservation, and hazardous substance management, including drafting and following up on technical specifications.
- Organising and managing site visits at CERN to recommend improvements to environmental practices, documented through official reports or notes.
- Monitoring and ensuring environmental protection during engineering and civil works.
- Raising environmental awareness among all stakeholders.
- Contributing to CERN's environmental monitoring programme, including on-site investigations and follow-up on pollution incidents, in support of continuous improvement in environmental protection.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
