At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Introduction
Within the Electrical Group of the Engineering Department (EN-EL), you will join the Electrical Project Management Section (EPM), which is responsible for the management of projects related to the consolidation and upgrade of CERN’s electrical transmission and distribution network.
Functions
You will ensure the site supervision and management for projects ranging from high-voltage networks to low-voltage installations:
- Supervise the onsite works for the projects of consolidation and extension of the existing electrical network, including coordination with non-electrical activities such as civil engineering, transport and handling, cooling and ventilation, IT systems carried out by other groups at CERN.
- Be responsible for the safety of the activities in the worksites of the assigned projects, ensuring that they are performed in respect of the applicable rules and requirements.
- Contribute to the design of electrical systems.
- Supervise and coordinate the contractors performing works on site, preparing and carrying out acceptance tests, checking contractors’ documentation, planning and checking and validating quality and quantities prior to final payment.
- Coordinate and perform installation, test and commissioning activities on electrical equipment.
- Be responsible for the organization and the execution of smaller electrical works, from needs’ definition, design, cost estimate, procurement up to onsite installation and handover to the operation and maintenance teams.
- Take part in the regular standby duty for troubleshooting on the electrical network.
