BIOLOGIST 1-3 OFFICE OF WILDLIFE- HABITAT STEWARDSHIP, LAKE CHARLES
This position is an entry level biologist position that receives direct supervision from a biologist supervisor in the Lake Charles field office. Performs daily operations on 7 WMAs in SW LA including habitat management activities, bag checks, hunting season recommendations, along with interactions with technician staff and the public. Performs technical assistance including site visits and habitat management plans in Vernon, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis, Acadia, Cameron, and Vermillion parishes. Provides technical advice concerning financial assistance available to landowners through the Farm Bill and other funding mechanisms for implementation of conservation practices. Writes brochures. Performs Wetland Reserve Easement monitoring. Transports injured or nuisance animals. Conducts meetings and answers questions from the public. Works with other state agencies, federal agencies, and non-government organizations on common subject matter. Investigates and reports black bear incidents. Manages data, conducts browse surveys, and distributes reports for the Deer Management Assistance Program. Coordinates and performs trapping, data collection and banding of turkey, dove, and waterfowl. Performs surveys for dove, quail turkey. Performs deer collections for herd health and breeding data. Completes necessary activities associated with sampling for Chronic Wasting Disease in whitetail deer. Coordinates and performs operations necessary to administer alligator harvest programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Participate in infrastructure and habitat management projects on Region WMA’s
- Work with private landowners to assist them in successful implementation of habitat projects
- Learn implementation processes to facilitate successful projects on WMA’s as well as private lands
- Provide support for staff engaged in the same work
- Accurately complete time and attendance reporting
- Learn agency practices, as well as new management techniques necessary for project delivery
- Track progress on assigned tasks and provide updates to region staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries management, animal science, forestry, natural resources, or conservation.
NOTES:
Examples of non-qualifying degrees are science education (of any discipline), geology, geography, nuclear science, and agribusiness.
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
